Split Car Rental: Airport Pickup, Parking and City Access

Split car rental is most useful to consider alongside your actual driving days. Plan SPU collection, the parking at your accommodation and the journeys you could make without a car.

Planning Split car rental around your route

Split car rental starts with deciding which parts of your stay need a vehicle. Airport collection, accommodation parking and driving days belong in the same calculation. A car waiting while you explore on foot still needs a place to park. For a visit centred on the historic city, compare collecting a vehicle for selected days with keeping one for the whole stay.

Split Airport provides rental car access and is about 20 km from Split, near Kaštela towards Trogir. Arrange the collection details around your arrival and keep the return instructions with your flight information. The distance is a location guide, rather than a travel time to every address. Allow separately for traffic, returning the vehicle and the rest of the airport departure process.

Before choosing a vehicle, decide where it will stand overnight and how you will reach the accommodation entrance from there. Ask for the precise parking location and final walking directions. A central address is not a substitute for those instructions. Our accommodation area guide explains the practical differences between the historic centre, Varoš and the beach and harbour area.

Car rental and parking at SPU

The airport's parking tariff, valid from 1 March 2026, distinguishes the south and north car parks. At the south car park, a car costs EUR 2 for up to one hour, EUR 4 for up to two hours, EUR 6 for up to three hours and EUR 8 for up to four hours. Each further hour costs EUR 0.50. At the north car park the charge is EUR 5 for the first hour and each following hour.

Parking spaces cannot be reserved. The airport also describes Kiss & Fly with the first five minutes free, while the driver stays in or near the vehicle. Use it for a brief drop-off rather than a longer wait. These airport parking charges are separate from the rental contract and do not describe the arrangements at a particular rental return point.

Stari plac parking and the season

The Stari plac car park on Zrinsko-Frankopanska has seasonal charges introduced from 8 January 2026. In winter, from 1 October to 30 April, the first hour costs EUR 2 and each further hour EUR 3. In summer, from 1 May to 30 September, the first hour is EUR 4 and each further hour EUR 5. Use those dates when estimating the cost of leaving a vehicle during a city walk.

These charges belong to this named car park. Read the tariff at the place where you actually park rather than applying the Stari plac amount to every city street. A useful plan records the parking location, the pedestrian route to the room and the time you intend to return. Keep that final walk in mind if you are travelling with heavy luggage.

Marjan and beach access

A rental car is not the only way to reach the wooded Marjan peninsula. Bene is described as accessible on foot or by bus 12. Within the park, parking belongs on designated areas. Avoid planning a drive directly to a shoreline point solely because it looks close on a map. Our Marjan guide covers walks and park planning, while the beach comparison separates Bene, Kašjuni and Bačvice.

Days when transport can be organised for you

The excursion on this page includes transport, a professional guide, fuel surcharge and insurance. Hotel pickup applies to selected hotels on request. It suits a later outing during your stay rather than the journey from the airport. Comparing that format with a driving day lets you weigh the organised transport against vehicle collection, parking and returning the car yourself.

For arrival without a vehicle, the airport transport guide explains the direct shuttle, public bus and transfer choices. Make that arrival decision first, then fit any rental period around the days you intend to leave the city.

Car rental planning questions

Can I collect a car at Split Airport?

The airport provides rental car access. Arrange the collection and return location with your rental booking and include the accommodation parking plan in the decision.

Does Stari plac cost the same all year?

Its 2026 tariff has winter and summer periods. The first and subsequent hours are priced differently, so use the season matching your visit.

Is hotel pickup included with the excursion?

Pickup is available from selected hotels on request. The offer provides an organised outing with transport and a guide, rather than a rental vehicle for independent use.
